I've been meaning to start a blog for probably a decade—yeah, as in ten years. At least that’s when the thought first crossed my mind. Yet, I haven’t done it. It’s the easiest thing to set up in the world. So what exactly took me so long? I think not knowing what to talk about.
What are you going to play ?
"I’ll play it and tell you what it is later" is what Miles Davis famously answered when someone asked him what he was about to play. I think so much of not starting projects boils down to the essence of that quote. Definition should not be the initial step. You don't need that domain name (yet). Just start doing the thing, and at the end, you can decide what it is.
We are so obsessed with defining things before we do them that sometimes we don't even start. Just start doing something—write one sentence, draw one line, play one note, record one minute. Let it play out. Whatever it may be. It may be garbage; in fact, it most certainly will be, but it could be a new, special kind of garbage. Then it might need a name.
Don't suffocate curiosity early by trying to define what it is trying to manifest.
You may even save yourself from the "embarrassment" of having to "pivot".
So I'll start writing.
About what? To what end? Why?
Well, first of all, because—and most importantly—I'll write it and then I'll tell you what it is.
